Loblaw brand snacks recalled across Canada after people suffer allergic reactions

Canadian shoppers may want to check their pantries, as several Loblaw brand snacks are part of a nationwide recall.

On Saturday, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a recall notice for several Loblaw brand snacks due to a food allergen.

"The affected products are being recalled from the marketplace because they contain milk, which is not declared on the label," reads the statement.

The recalled products include:

• Frankie's Organic Plant-Based Puffs Vegan Cheddar, 113 g, UPC 816929000089, code 2027 MA 16; 2027 JL 03
• PC Organics Plant-Based Cheddar baked corn puffs, 142 g, UPC 060383020767, code 2027 FE 15; 2027 FE 16; 2027 AL 03
• PC Organics Plant-Based Cheddar baked corn puffs, 336 g, UPC 060383020774, code 2027 FE 16; 2027 AL 03
• PC Organics Plant-Based Cheddar Jalapeno baked corn puffs, 142 g, UPC 060383020798, code 2027 FE 16
• PC Organics Plant-Based Cheddar baked corn crunchies, 142 g, UPC 060383096168, code 2027 FE 15; 2027 MR 26

The recall was triggered by Aliments Biologiques Frankie Inc. PC Organics is a private label owned by Loblaw Companies Ltd.

According to the CFIA, there have already been "reported reactions associated with the consumption of these products." The agency says that it's verifying that the affected products are being pulled from the market and that a food safety investigation is ongoing and could lead to more recalls.

If you find that you have the recalled product, don't consume, serve, sell, or distribute it. Instead, make sure to throw it out or return it to the location where it was purchased.

The recall has been assigned as a class one, which means that "there is a high risk that consuming the food may lead to serious health problems or death."

In Canada, milk is one of the most common priority allergens in food, as well as eggs, mustard, peanuts, crustaceans and molluscs, fish, sesame seeds, soy, sulphites, tree nuts, and wheat and triticale.

The CFIA also recently announced a nationwide recall of Compliments brand Smashed 100 per cent Chicken Burgers recalled due to undeclared egg.
