There's no better way —except for maybe some turbo AC— to beat Toronto's current heat wave than with a good, old-fashioned scoop of ice cream, and this weekend, one ice cream shop is making it extra affordable to beat the heat.
In celebration of National Ice Cream Day this Sunday, July 19, Scooped by Demetres is serving up scoops for just 19 cents at its Distillery District location — the sort of price your grandparents would tell you about, back when they had to walk uphill both ways to school.
For less than a quarter, customers will be able to score a single scoop of any flavour they like, which, if you're familiar with Demetres, run the gamut from classic to outright quirky. And, for pocket change, why not swap out your standard cookie dough scoop for cajeta swirled goat cheese instead?
However unbelievably cheap, the price isn't random. According to Scooped by Demetres, it's meant to represent the ice cream shop's 19 per cent butterfat recipe, the highest butterfat content of any ice cream in the country, which makes it (and you, at these prices) all the richer.
You'll have to act fast if you want to get in on the deal, though, and not just because the ice cream is going to melt.
The offer is only available to the first 100 guests who show up to Scooped by Demetres's Distillery District location on Sunday. Doors open at 12 p.m., just in time to soothe the hottest hours of the day with a scoop of something sweet.
If you miss out, not to fear, because plenty of other ice cream purveyors are also offering pocket-pleasing deals in honour of National Ice Cream Day, too, like DQ, where you can pick up a small sundae for just $1.
Scooped by Demetres is located at 46 Gristmill Lane.
