Toronto neighbourhood known for Mexican just got a new spot for Thai street food

A new spot specializing in Thai street food just opened in Toronto's Kensington Market, and it's not one you're going to want to miss.

Though Kensington Market boasts a stunning array of different cuisines among its many restaurants, it's safe to say that Mexican is what it does best. Home to a number of Mexican restaurants that nears the double digits, nowhere in the market is far from a great torta, taco or tortilla chip.

That said, it's a new restaurant that specializes in Thai street noodles that's been getting extra attention lately.

Officially opening its doors in June 2026, Teow Tem Toh is the real deal when it comes to Thai street noodles of all shapes and sizes: be they stir-fried or soupy, topped with succulent grilled pork jowl or swimming in rich broth.

The restaurant took over the space that most recently housed Belgian Sweet Corner, giving a spicy, savoury kick to the formerly sugary address, but for the team behind Teow Tem Toh, serving up street food is nothing new.

In an Instagram post introducing Teow Tem Toh, the restaurant's owner explains that the boat noodle broth comes from a family recipe, fine-tuned and passed down through generations.

"Our story began in 2011, when our mom opened a small noodle shop in Thailand. Although the shop eventually closed, her secret recipe never disappeared," the post reads.

"Her rich, aromatic, old-school Ayutthaya boat noodle broth has been passed down through our family, and today we're proud to bring that same authentic recipe to Toronto."

It makes sense, then, that boat noodles, served in itty-bitty bowls designed to preserve the perfect broth-to-noodle ratio and ordered again as you go, are the restaurant's specialty, but far from the only thing you can tuck into there.

Other street food favourites, like pad Thai, pad see ew and pad kapao, join a lengthy lineup of various boat noodle variations.

Teow Tem Toh is located at 237 Augusta Ave.
