Mel Gibson just showed up at a Toronto burger joint

Controversial screen star Mel Gibson just showed up at a Toronto burger joint, and it's just the latest in a string of local sightings of the American-Australian actor and director.

Gibson turned up at the Rosie's Burgers location in The Well's Wellington Market, posed with staff, and even had a new menu item named after him.

With a disclaimer that Gibson was "not held against his will to take these photos," Rosie's Burgers introduced its new "Braveheart Burger," which is just a classic with bacon.

However, some commenters were not too pleased with Rosie's for featuring Gibson, whose career has been sidelined by multiple high-profile controversies. Gibson's career went off the rails following a 2006 arrest, where he made antisemitic remarks to the arresting officer. Audio recordings of Gibson screaming racial slurs made headlines just a few years later in 2010.

Gibson has largely stayed out of headlines for many years, but the divisive celebrity endorsement has attracted politically and even racially charged comments from both sides of the aisle.

The 70-year-old Gibson has recently been spotted all over town in recent weeks, including sitting courtside at a Scarborough Shooting Stars game and living it up at a Loud Luxury concert.
