Dive into countryside charm with a visit to one of Ontario's best wineries this summer

Tucked away in Beamsville, Ontario, Kew Vineyards Estate is a Niagara winery known for its sparkling wines, historic vineyards, and relaxed estate setting.

The vineyards here feature original 1970s plantings, some of the oldest in the region. Located less than two hours outside of Toronto, it makes for an easy day trip this summer.

Country charm

Set on a 60-acre property, Kew Vineyards Estate (affectionately known as "The Grand Dame") combines a long agricultural history with Niagara's modern wine scene.

At the heart of the estate is a 160-year-old homestead built by William Kew, whose family lived on and cared for the property for generations before it became the winery visitors see today.

The grounds themselves also have a rich history. In 1975, Hermann Weiss planted some of Niagara's first Riesling vines on the property — a bold move at a time when many doubted the variety would thrive in the region.

Using his own cuttings from Germany, Weiss (literally) laid the groundwork for what is Kew Vineyards today.

Explore the wines

Kew encourages visitors to take the time to enjoy, explore, and experience their array of wines. Whether you're new to the world of wine or already know your way around a tasting flight, it's an opportunity to learn more about the different varieties and the stories behind each pour.

Tasting flights are available for $18 per person and include three one-ounce pours, offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors can also add a seasonal cheese plate to their tasting for a classic wine country pairing.
