The lineup at this Toronto restaurant is getting completely out of control

Just days after announcing that it would soon be changing its business structure for good, one Toronto restaurant is seeing an unprecedented turnout from the community.

People often joke that Toronto loves a lineup: that people will join them without even knowing what's at the end of it. It's hyperbolic, sure, but not entirely untrue. On the other hand, it also speaks to Toronto residents' willingness to devote their time to things they think are really worth it.

Famiglia Baldassarre is definitely worth it.

The pasta shop, which supplies raw pasta to several restaurants around the city, has become equally renowned for its weekday lunch service, even landing itself a spot on Toronto's Michelin Guide.

Recently, though, founder Leandro Baldassarre announced that the business would be doing away with lunch service and leaning fully into wholesale (which, silver lining, means we may soon see Famiglia Baldassarre in grocery stores). In response, Toronto residents have started showing up in droves — even larger than before — to get one last bite of Famiglia Baldassarre lunch.

A post shared by Reddit user chiefsquibz in the FoodToronto subreddit shows just how staggering the demand has gotten at Famiglia Baldassarre in its final days, with hopeful diners lining up for blocks along Geary Avenue.

The restaurant, too, has been taking notice, updating its Instagram story when the line begins (usually an hour or more before lunch service actually starts) and revealing headcounts of the number of customers in line (usually more than 100). 

Baldassarre, thanks to its itsy-bitsy storefront and the fact that lunch service only runs for two hours, four days a week, was known for its lines at the best of times, but with the countdown to its last lunch added to the mix, they've reached unprecedented heights, which are unlikely to dwindle any time soon.

Famiglia Baldassarre will serve its final lunch service on Aug. 14, so you still have some time to grab one last meal there before it's too late. Just make sure to wear comfortable shoes.
