New Toronto restaurant featuring the city's best pasta opening this week

A new Italian restaurant is opening in Toronto this week, and it's serving up — among other things — some of the city's most celebrated pasta.

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, and, for Toronto's pasta-passionate population, that truism can easily be applied to Michelin-recognized pasta restaurant Famiglia Baldassarre.

Open only for a two-hour lunch service Tuesday through Friday (although their retail operation is open until 5 p.m. on the same days), a mere taste of the pasta frequently leaves locals longing for the next time they have an extended enough lunch break to post up in a lengthy line on Geary.

Well, it may not be quite the same, but Bar Romy, a new Italian spot opening in Toronto this week, will at least give you the chance to fill the noodle aspect of your Baldassarre cravings, because all of their pasta is to be sourced from the Geary restaurant.

Though the pasta aspect is sure to generate an ample amount of buzz, that's far from the only thing Romy will serve up.

According to INK Entertainment, the hospitality company behind Bar Romy, on top of a swath of other buzzy Toronto spots (Honey Chinese and Primadonna, Vinny and Animl, to name only a few), the vision for Bar Romy is to bring "honest Italian cooking [and] great wine" to its Adelaide and John digs.

"Bar Romy is exactly the kind of restaurant I've always wanted in the neighbourhood," says INK Entertainment founder and CEO Charles Khabouth.

"It's casual, friendly, upbeat, and built around great food, great wine, and genuine hospitality. We wanted to create a place where people feel comfortable dropping in any day of the week—whether for a quick bite before the theatre or a game, or for a celebratory dinner with friends."

With a kitchen helmed by Chef Ben Heaton, you can expect a menu centred around simplicity: quality ingredients used to craft familiar Italian staples with integrity. Beyond the pasta, the extensive menu includes Roman-style pizza, house-made focaccia, sandwiches and antipasti.

Select menu items are also available for lunchtime takeout to serve on-the-go workers in the area.

And, though the menu is earnest, the interiors, in true INK Entertainment fashion, will be sleek and utterly Instagrammable. Headed up by Nivek Rimas, the restaurant has transcended from its past life as Figo into something warmer and more grounded, the sort of place you end up staying for one, two, three more glasses of wine than you planned.

Bar Romy officially opens on Thursday, July 2, and is located at 295 Adelaide St. W.
