Famous Chinese restaurant closing Toronto location after less than a year

The Toronto location of a Chinese restaurant that's made a big splash on the West Coast was one of the most anticipated openings of summer 2025. Less than a year later, it's already closing its doors.

In the roughly nine months since it opened its doors, you may have passed by the Annex's Peaceful Chinese Restaurant without even knowing it was there. A stalwart in Vancouver for nearly 30 years, the restaurant's Toronto location fit right in among the diverse bounty of other restaurants around Bloor and Bathurst.

Those in the know, however, couldn't pass up the chance to finally score the restaurant's lauded Northern Chinese cuisine in the 'Six.

Dan Dan noodles, xiao long bao, Szechuan green beans, and the signature Peaceful beef rolls have earned the restaurant a sterling reputation on the shores of the Pacific, with Peaceful Restaurant even appearing on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in the early 2010s.

The Toronto location, unassuming though it may be, did not disappoint: all the restaurant's staples, served in a similarly earnest interior, were accounted for.

Still, it looks like there's trouble in Peaceful-dise, as a sign recently posted in the restaurant's window announces that it'll soon close permanently.

"We are truly grateful to have met you in Toronto. Our Toronto branch will be closing," the notice reads.

"Thank you for your continued support and loyalty. We hope to welcome you at other branches."

The restaurant hasn't closed quite yet, though. blogTO contacted Peaceful Chinese Restaurant for more details on its official closing date, but has not received a response at the time of publication.

Peaceful Chinese Restaurant is located at 515 Bloor St. W.
