The last surviving location of iconic burger chain Lick's Homeburgers has officially closed its doors in Ontario, but it's unclear whether or not this burger is completely cooked for good.
Growing up in the Beaches in the early 2000s, Lick's was as integral a part of my childhood summers as biking along the boardwalk and getting ice cream at Ed's Real Scoop — ideally all three in the same evening.
The burger chain's bombastic atmosphere, with singing and shouting cooks behind the pass and a humidity level that made the entire restaurant feel like a beef-scented sauna, was heaven to a kid, made only better after that first bite of a duly charred patty dripping in Guk.
Tragically, over the past decade, Lick's locations across Toronto have steadily gone extinct, with the last restaurant in city limits closing its doors in 2021.
Nevertheless, straggler locations persisted, slowly dying off over time. By 2026, only a lone Lick's location remained at a Parry Sound gas station. Not exactly easy to reach on a whim craving, but still accessible for those most devoted of Lick's fans.
As of late April 2026, though, the last living Lick's has closed its doors, too.

The Parry Sound Lick's location is marked "Temporarily Closed" on Google.
Though the location is currently marked as "Temporarily Closed" on Google, a post in the Weird Toronto Facebook group claims that it really is gone for good, but that the owner plans to reopen in a different Ontario location.
blogTO was unable to independently verify these claims. With the warm childhood nostalgia that the restaurant stirs for me and no small number of other Ontario residents, I can only hope that the rumours are true, and that Lick's will continue to live on somewhere in the province.
Lick's Homeburgers formerly operated 30 locations across Ontario.
