Toronto Italian restaurant quietly closes and people aren't happy

A Toronto restaurant with an enthusiastic cult following has seemingly left the city for good, and its former fans aren't happy about it.

A large part of the beauty of Italian cuisine falls within its versatility. Equally appropriate for a fancy-schmancy night out or a quick fix on your lunch break, pizza, pasta, panini and the like always hit the spot.

For workers in the Queen and Spadina area seeking out the latter, Fusaro's Italian Kitchen has long been a go-to.

Open since 1998, the casual, comfortable restaurant had been a fixture in the neighbourhood for nearly 30 years, particularly popular thanks to its patio, which, despite being situated near one of the city's more chaotic intersections, felt like a relaxed oasis.

The world tends to melt away when you're sinking your teeth into a damn-good slice of pizza, anyhow.

It looks to be the end of an era for Fusaro's and its fans, though, as the restaurant quietly closed its doors and marked itself "permanently closed" on Google without issuing any formal announcement that it was going out of business.

Fusaro's is marked "Permanently Closed" on Google as of May 2026.

The restaurant seemingly closed its doors around early April 2026, but fans largely found themselves in the dark about whether the restaurant would be reopening or not.

Back in 2023, a development was proposed for the Spadina Avenue property that Fusaro's, alongside a string of other restaurants, called home, which could provide some insight into the reason behind the closure, but no information has been released in the affirmative.

Whatever the reason, Fusaro's adoring fan base evidently isn't pleased about the closure, nor the lack of communication from the restaurant.

Comments on the restaurant's last Instagram post, shared in October 2025, largely belong to customers expressing their disappointment about the closure.

"What happened! I've been going to fusaro's for years and suddenly it's shut down?" one comment reads.

"You just closed with no notice to your loyal customers?? i’ve been going for years and this is so disappointing," writes another follower.

Others simply used the comment section of the post to express their gratitude for the years of memories and tasty Italian eats.

"Fusaro’s… thanks for all the memories. From standing in line and chatting with Grace, to big waves from Glenda and delicious food, you were a staple for almost my entire career. You will be missed," one commenter writes.

Fusaro's was formerly located at 147 Spadina Ave.
