daves genuine deli toronto

Beloved Toronto deli just got a second lease on life weeks after closing

A long-running Toronto deli broke hearts across the city when it announced it would be closing down in March 2026, but, less than two months later, it's already come back in a big way.

Sandwich lovers of Toronto, rejoice: after a brief seven-week hiatus, Dave's Genuine Deli is officially back in business. Sort of.

Though it only opened in 2021, Dave's carried the spirit of those old-school delis that have been around since your grandparents were mere whippersnappers, and, in its five-year run at Avenue and Lawrence, it developed the fan base to match.

Serving up stacked sandwiches stuffed with the likes of juicy brisket, smoked turkey and smoked meat alongside other deli staples like matzoh soup and egg salad, Dave's became a certified institution during its run, which made the news of its closure on March 14 all the more bitter.

You can't keep a good man (or, in this case, deli) down for long, though, and as of May 7, Dave's is officially back in business, operating in a more limited capacity out of Oakwood Village's Soul Provisions.

Though Dave's old digs have been left behind, the partnership is a match made in heaven. Firstly, because few things go better together than soup, one of Soul Provisions' specialties, and sandwiches.

Secondly, because both businesses care, above almost all else, about fostering community through the unifying power of good food.

Nowadays, Dave's is operating out of the Tycos Drive space Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., primetime to pick up a hefty sandwich on your lunch break.

Not to fear: you can still get all of your old favourites from the original Dave's location. Think Reubens, turkey clubs, corned beef, and my personal favourite, whole kosher pickles.

You can get your fill of all your Dave's Genuine Deli favourites by finding them at their new home inside Soul Provisions at 68 Tycos Dr.
