Shuttered Toronto bar and grill returns to the neighbourhood this week

A year after quietly closing down, a beloved Toronto bar and grill is making its much-anticipated return to the neighbourhood this week. Well, sort of.

You could almost hear the collective hearts of Davisville Village residents breaking all at once when, in the fall of 2025, longstanding local bar and grill, Kramer's, suddenly and quietly closed its doors.

The epitome of a neighbourhood hub, the bar and grill hosted regular trivia nights and sports game screenings for decades before defecting the neighbourhood, leaving its acolytes adrift in a neighbourhood being rapidly overwritten with development.

Not long after, however, the team behind Kramer's opened up a new venture, far away from the first: an Italian restaurant in Etobicoke called Blue Horse Cucina, the name a nod to Kramer's mysterious cobalt colt mascot.

And they weren't stopping there. Kramer's team informed blogTO that an additional two restaurant concepts were in the works, including a rotisserie meat restaurant in Cabbagetown and, arguably, the closest to what Kramer's was, an eatery on Yonge, just off Davisville.

As of May 30, the latter, aptly named Blue Horse Eatery, will be in business, marking the team's hotly anticipated return to the neighbourhood it called home for so many years.

Taking over the old Fionn MacCool's location at Yonge and Balliol, Blue Horse Eatery won't be a carbon copy of Kramer's. It'll serve modern Italian bar food and a full suite of cocktails, but you can still anticipate it being the perfect place to watch the game or grab a drink with friends.

Blue Horse Eatery is located at 1867 Yonge St.
