The temperatures in Toronto are getting hot, hot, hot, which means the city's residents are craving anything cold, cold, cold, and a recently-opened gelato shop might just hit the spot.
It may have been a long, dark and chilly start to spring, but with (almost) nothing but sunny skies ahead, the primal urge to seek out the nearest thing that's sweet, chilly, and served in a cone is alive and well.
Toronto is already home to plenty of ice cream shops that'll hit the spot, but a new one that just opened on Danforth might just have the city's social media feeds in a vice grip this summer.
Hosting its grand opening on Saturday, May 23 — if you'll recall, a decidedly un-ice cream-friendly day, weather-wise — may not have gotten Cloudberry Whip, Danforth's newest soft serve shop, off on the best foot, but the vibrant swirls and dirty sodas that populate its menu more than make up for it.
Specializing in dairy-free soft serve, the shop's pink, yellow and orange exterior perfectly matches the fresh fruit-based delights getting whipped up in store, available in dragonfruit, mango, pineapple and strawberry.
Because this is 2026, the shop also offers dirty sodas and floats, touting itself as the first on the east side of Toronto to do so. You can choose between Dr. Pepper, root beer, club soda or 7-Up, and dress it up with a selection of syrups and creams.
The treats at Cloudberry are just the sort of vibrant, healthy-ish delights that the city seems to be latching on to increasingly these days — just look at the phenomenon that was, and continues to be, Haydn's at Stackt Market.
And while, in my dairy-loving opinion, nothing beats a hearty scoop of the lactose-laden classics (Burnt Marshmallow at Ed's Real Scoop is my kryptonite), there are more than enough months in summer for every iteration of frozen treat to get its time in the sun.
Cloudberry is located at 602 Danforth Ave.
