One of Toronto's most famous sushi restaurants is closing permanently

Yukashi, one of Toronto's best-regarded sushi restaurants, just announced it's closing down for good, but something new might just be coming in its wake.

When it comes to next-level sushi in Toronto, Mount Pleasant's Yukashi has occupied an unwavering position near the top of the pack ever since it opened in 2018.

A joint venture from renowned chefs Jin Lee and Daisuke Izutsu, the intimate sushi restaurant earned immediate critical acclaim thanks to its visually dazzling, seasonally inspired dishes.

When Toronto finally scored its own Michelin Guide in 2022, it became one of the first Canadian restaurants in history to earn one Michelin star alongside contemporaries like Edulis and Alo, landing just below Sushi Masaki Saito, a distinction it held for two years before being stripped of its star in 2024.

Now, it's the end of an era, as Yukashi prepares to serve its final menu next month.

In an Instagram post shared on April 19, Yukashi announces that it's entered its "final chapter," and that it will host its final dinner on May 2 before closing down for good.

"Thank you for your support over the years," the post reads. "We invite you to join us for one memorable evening."

Despite the finality of the post's language, it does allude to a new-and-improved concept taking the sushi restaurant's place, with "something new is coming," scrawled across the bottom of the image in small print.

While the details on what the "something new" in question entails are scarce, one thing is certain: Yukashi will soon be gone for good.

But the end of Yukashi isn't here quite yet, though: you still have until May 2 to stop by for one final meal before it transforms into its next form.

Yukashi is located at 643a Mount Pleasant Rd.
