Toronto steakhouse suddenly closes permanently after 60 years

A stalwart Toronto steakhouse just announced that it has closed permanently after over 60 years.

I don't know about you, but this recurring theme is starting to feel a little too familiar for comfort.

While Toronto's notoriously high rent prices and operational costs have, for a long time, led to high commercial turnover rates, longstanding local restaurants seem to be closing their doors at a particularly rapid pacee these days.

Don't believe me? Just ask Imperial Pub, San Francesco Foods, Patrician Grill, Nami or Jumbo Empanadas. Even non-restaurant businesses, like the 60-year-old Better Way Cleaners, the 50-year-old Steve's Music, or the 45-year-old Filmore's, aren't immune these days.

As of March 2026, Etobicoke's Black Angus Steakhouse is the latest to succumb to the growing trend.

Established in 1964, the steakhouse was a classic destination for prime cuts of Canadian beef and a flurry of other steakhouse staples, from a particularly beloved house Caesar salad to buck-a-shuck oysters, for more than 60 years.

The restaurant's status had been in question since as early as January 2026, however, as rumours that Black Angus would soon be closing permanently began bubbling up among its surrounding community.

On Tuesday, March 3, the outcome feared by the restaurant's fans was confirmed through a post on Black Angus' Instagram: not only were the closure rumours true, but the restaurant had already closed its doors for good.

"Black Angus Steakhouse has closed permanently. We are grateful to our guests, staff, and community for the memories shared over the years. Thank you," the caption of the post reads.

But, while the restaurant's longstanding Etobicoke location has closed, there may be hope for a revival in the future, as a notice on Black Angus' website encourages patrons to follow the steakhouse on Instagram for "any future updates."

Could a new-and-improved version of Black Angus Steakhouse be in the cards? We'll just have to stay tuned to find out.

In slightly better news, Toronto is about to get an exciting new steakhouse, which could help to fill the void left behind by Black Angus, though Etobicoke residents will have to venture out of their neighbourhood limits to visit.

blogTO contacted Black Angus Steakhouse for further details on the closure, but has not received a response at the time of publication. The restaurant was located at 3250 Bloor St. W.
