People are calling this new Toronto restaurant Canada's answer to Erewhon
A new health food restaurant in Toronto is drawing comparisons to the famously expensive, viral L.A.-based grocery store Erewhon, with some visitors calling it Canada's own "dupe" of the luxury chain.
Who among us hasn't fallen down a dark internet hole watching perfectly poised Instagram models tuck into $50 worth of raw vegetables and mineral water at Erewhon? People who aren't chronically online, perhaps, but that's not me.
Ever since the grocery store — which seems to be kind of like a Whole Foods-meets-Summerhill Market on steroids — first began appearing on my feed, I've been captivated by it. Those salads and smoothies do look good, even if they'd set me back a quarter of my weekly income.
Alas, the grocery store chain exists only in the Greater Los Angeles area, so trying it out for myself is out of the question, unless I'd be willing to buy a plane ticket, which, considering the fact that I even physically recoil at the suggestion of paying for an Uber anywhere, is not likely.
The good news? Toronto just got a new restaurant that some people are already calling the city's own "Erewhon dupe."
Opening its doors in June 2026, Orchard Kitchen specializes in "non-ultra-processed foods," focusing on home-cooked, whole foods served in the form of bowls, salads, and the occasional soup.
Perhaps the best part of all? While Erewhon's gotten notoriety for its steep prices ($21 for a smoothie? In USD, no less?!), Orchard Kitchen's offerings are considerably more budget-friendly.
A regular-sized plate with one protein, two sides, and your choice of toppings and sauces goes for $17.50, though some proteins carry an upcharge. Most salads linger around the $20 mark, which, though not exactly cheap, is about par for the course with other health food chains. Hey: it's cheaper than booking a flight to L.A.
