Celebrity chef Bobby Flay to open first Canadian restaurant at a Toronto landmark

Celebrity chef Bobby Flay (or the fast food chain that bears his name, anyway) is gearing up to open more than 60 restaurants across Canada, and the first will be in Toronto.

American chef, restaurateur and television personality Bobby Flay has made a name for himself as one of the most recognizable faces to come out of the Food Network star machine, hosting a litany of shows for the network, including Beat Bobby Flay and Bobby's Triple Threat, but people in Toronto will soon have a new reason to say his name.

Bobby's Burgers, Flay's burger chain, has been around south of the border since 2008, originally opening under the name Bobby's Burger Palace, but, thanks to a deal penned with global investment firm Falcon Capital, the chain will soon be migrating north.

Falcon Capital and Flay have officially confirmed that the first Canadian location of Bobby's Burgers will open its doors at — where else? — The Well.

Though no opening date has been determined just yet, Flay alludes to a summer opening in the announcement, saying, "Toronto is one of the world's greatest food cities, we're proud to bring our burgers, shakes and bold flavours north of the border. We can’t wait to welcome our guests this summer."

The Well location will also serve as the chain's Canadian flagship, a home base for Flay's signature burgers, milkshakes and fries.

"Bringing Bobby's Burgers to Canada starts with getting the first location right, and The Well gives us the perfect stage to do just that," Jim Gormley, franchise partner of the chain's Canadian expansion, says.

"This flagship sets the standard for how we will grow the brand across the country, delivering a premium guest experience while staying true to what makes Bobby's Burgers by Bobby Flay special."

One can only wonder what the Rosie's Burgers location at Wellington Market Food Hall has to say about their household name competitor moving in...

A total of 65 locations of the chain are slated to open across Canada, according to the deal, but no further locations have been announced.
