Toronto cafe that started in a trailer finally opens permanent location
A side hustle has officially turned into a full-fledged business for one pair of Toronto sisters-in-law as they officially open their first permanent location.
In-laws tend to get a bad rap, but in the case of Sister Sister Coffee Bar co-founders Kinzie and Olivia, becoming family through marriage created a bond that extends far beyond family get-togethers.
According to Kinzie and Olivia, their connection first began to bloom when they both moved to Toronto in 2021, bonding over their shared love of coffee.
Over many coffee dates, the wheels started turning: what if, instead of trying new cafes all the time, they simply started their own? Come June of 2024, the question ceased to be hypothetical: their very own mobile cafe, Sister Sister, officially hitting the road.
Holding court at Fort York during its early days, Sister Sister very quickly became a neighbourhood staple, thanks in large part to its charming green-and-white custom-built trailer and the friendly faces within it.
When not serving the good people of the Fort York area, Sister Sister popped up at various festivals and markets and was even available to rent for events. If life is a highway, Sister Sister has been living in the fast lane.
Sister Sister is just one in a recent onslaught of trailer-based coffee businesses making a splash in and around Toronto.
Maybe it's the retro-nostalgic appeal of the trailers themselves or the fact that the only seats available are on the patio, but with other ventures like Cafe Sips and CB Coffee Club also on a roll, there's never been a better time to be a mobile coffee business.
Still, the early success of Sister Sister (and its contemporaries) didn't stop Kinzie and Olivia from dreaming even bigger, and as of Oct. 18, they've officially opened a permanent location.
Taking over a fittingly cozy space just off King West, Sister Sister may be mobile no more, but no less ready to serve up a vast array of espresso and tea-based beverages using Olivia and Kinzie's handmade syrups.
As of October 2025, Sister Sister Coffee Bar is open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
