Ontario farm lets you pick your own blueberries this summer

Wilmot Orchards, a beloved family-run blueberry farm in Newcastle, Ont., is kicking off its highly anticipated pick-your-own blueberry season in late July; it's a sweet summer tradition in Ontario, and I know you want in.

With just a short 3-4 week window to enjoy peak picking, this is your sign to plan that wholesome countryside escape ASAP. The farm opens for picking in late July.

Known for its scenic setting and warm hospitality, Wilmot Orchards offers 11 varieties of highbush blueberries across its sprawling fields. It's the kind of place where you can fill your basket with fresh berries, breathe in country air, and then reward yourself with a homemade treat or two.

After picking, guests can swing by the farm's AppleBerries Café for some blueberry ice cream!

There's also a charming farm shop stocked with preserves and other goodies to bring home. What makes this spot even more special? It's a women-run operation that's been welcoming families and fruit lovers for decades.

Although the exact picking dates for this season are not yet released, blueberry pickers can expect to visit starting as early as the last week of July.

Admission is free Wednesday to Friday, and $5/person on the weekends; you get 90 minutes to pick your berries.

Pro tip: Check their site before you go since picking times and availability can change depending on the crop and weather.

Whether you're planning a summer day trip or looking for a unique stop on your weekend road trip, this orchard is a sweet way to spend a sunny afternoon.

Wilmot Orchards is located at 3337 Concession Rd 3, in Newcastle, Ont.
