Mexican food chain with an epic Happy Hour opening new Toronto location

A Canadian Mexican food chain that's gained a massive fanbase over the years in large part thanks to its to-die-for Happy Hour is about to open a brand-new Toronto location at the edge of St. Lawrence Market.

It was the closure heard around the world (or, at least across downtown Toronto) when beloved St. Lawrence Market haunt, Bar St. Lo announced it would be shutting down for good at the end of April 2025.

Despite only being open for four years, the bar managed to attract a cult following that many food and beverage concepts could only dream of before somewhat ominously stating that they had "recently received an offer that [they] couldn’t refuse," and would be closing down.

What, or who, could this offer have possibly been? As it turns out, none other than the Canadian Mexican food empire, Anejo.

The Calgary-based chain currently boasts three locations in Alberta and two in Toronto at Shops and Don Mills and on King West, and they're now gearing up to open a third in the venerable space that formerly held Bar St. Lo.

Beloved among the margarita-loving masses for their twice-daily Happy Hour that offers $4 tacos and half-price tequila, on top of their regular menu of Mexican staples (I'm partial to their quesabirria, personally,) you'd be hard-pressed to find a time when the chain's two current Toronto locations aren't entirely overrun.

In other words, another downtown location is most certainly a good thing.

While the opening date for the new location has yet to be confirmed, it is already hiring for a ton of positions, including hosts, servers, line cooks, bartenders and dishwashers, so the wait can't be much longer — and just in time for a summer full of half-priced margaritas. What could be sweeter (or spicier, if that's your vibe)?

Anejo's newest location will be opening at 26 Market Street.
