Hidden gem Italian bakery and cafe closing in Toronto

A Toronto bakery and cafe that's been family-run for the past 7 years just announced that it'll be closing its doors this month.

Valentine's Day is going to come with a healthy amount of heartbreak for Harbord Village residents this year, as local staple, Think It Cafe, just announced they're shutting down permanently in just over a week.

Founded in 2018 by self-described V.I.Ps — very Italian people — the Borden Street cafe was a go-to spot in the neighbourhood for, unsurprisingly, Italian baked goods from Amico Chef, panini, coffee and a selection of both imported and local pantry items.

It'll soon be the end of an era for Think It and its devout fans, though, as the cafe recently took to its Instagram account to announce that it's closing down permanently as of Feb. 14.

At least that still gives you a few more days to pick up some treats to surpside your sweetie on Valentine's Day. Or, you know, to drown your sorrow if you're spending the holiday single this year.

"All the words on [Earth] will never be enough to express our GRATITUDE: we had the honour and the privilege to serve an amazing community in one of the best neighborhood in the city!" the caption of the announcement reads.

A representative from Think It Cafe tells blogTO that "many small obsticles," including the pandemic and subsequent recession, high cost of living in Toronto and active construction sites obscuring the business for two years quite simply made it too difficult for the small, family-owned operation to survive.

"We tried our best," they add.

As for whether Think It will have a resurgence at any point in the future, don't count on it.

"Unfortunately, there won't be another Think It," they tell blogTO.

In spite of the business coming to an end, though, Think It tells blogTO they're still very proud "to have served an amazing community for seven years," and encourages anyone and everyone to say goodbye with a visit and some last goodies in their final days.

Think It Cafe is located at 196 Borden Street.
