Mabuhay Philippines Festival

There's a huge Filipino food and cultural festival in Toronto this week

If you, like many a Toronto resident, are utterly obsessed with Filipino food, you're in luck — there's yet another huge festival that celebrates the sights, sounds and flavours of the Philippines just around the corner.

Featuring over 50 different vendors from Toronto and all around the world, the Mabuhay Philippines Festival is keeping the summertime vibes rolling even into the dog days of the season with a huge weekend-long festival.

After celebrating their 25th year in 2023, the festival returns later this August with a packed schedule of entertainment by artists from both the Philippines and Toronto, like an all-Filipino drag show, a fashion show by Filipino designer Renee Salud, traditional folk dance and live music.

You'll even get the chance to have your photo taken with one of the biggest Filipino icons of all: the Jollibee mascot.

After you've worked up a sufficient appetite singing, dancing and exploring the festival, you can dine on a selection of Filipino street foods and baked goods from a slew of different vendors, like Tapguan and Less is More Patisserie.

The festival is also hosting this year's Battle at the Square basketball tournament, the biggest basketball event in Toronto, where teams from across the city duke it out to win cash prizes and, of course, glory.

While the festival itself is free to attend and open to the public, you'll have to pay your way to participate in the basketball tournament, with registration going for $800 a team.

The Mabuhay Philippines Festival is taking place at Nathan Phillips Square from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug 24 and Sunday, Aug 25.
