Toronto Hydro outage map shows 65,000 without power after huge storm

The Toronto Hydro outage map lit up with reports of blackouts on Wednesday evening as a huge storm slammed into the city, leaving approximately 65,000 without power.

Toronto Hydro provided an update on the situation on social media, sharing that "A severe wind and hail storm is causing widespread outages and damage across Toronto, currently affecting approximately 65,000 customers."

"This is an evolving situation and we want customers to know that crews are actively responding across the city," the post reads.

The local power company added that "We are responding to reported hazards, including downed powerlines and damaged electrical equipment, while coordinating restoration efforts across the city."

According to Toronto Hydro, "Teams are assessing storm-related damage, making emergency repairs and working to restore service safely and as quickly as possible."

"Given the scale of the storm and the number of outages, restoration efforts may take time and vary by location. Additional storms are forecast throughout the evening, which may impact restoration efforts."

Locals who encounter downed power lines are encouraged to stay at least 10 metres away and contact Toronto Hydro to report the threat.

Meanwhile, the power company will continue to share updates on social media and via its outage map.
