Ontario residents can expect payouts of money from the government next week

Eligible Ontario residents receiving the Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) should keep an eye on their accounts, with payments scheduled to go out next week.

Similar to federal benefits and credits, the OTB recently increased for the 2026 benefit year, which started in July and ends in June 2027. This is due to indexation, which adjusts benefit and credit payments to keep up with inflation.

This year, the Canada Revenue Agency's (CRA) indexation increase is two per cent. That means OTB payments increased by that amount. In comparison, it's a lower hike than the 2.7 per cent increase in 2025.

The maximum benefits and the income thresholds are indexed annually based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

OTB payments go out on Monday, Aug. 10 and here's how much more you could get.

How much will you receive from the Ontario Trillium Benefit?

The OTB is a tax-free payment that combines the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, the Northern Ontario Energy Credit, and the Ontario Sales Tax Credit.

The Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit provides eligible residents aged 18 to 64 years old with up to $1,307. Those aged 65 and older can receive up to $1,307. Residents living on a reserve or in a public long-term care home may qualify for up to $290. You'll also receive $25 for each month you lived in a designated college, university, or private school residence in 2025.

The amount you receive for the Northern Ontario Energy Credit depends on your marital status. If you're single, the maximum amount you can receive is $189, while families can get a maximum of $290.

Eligible Ontarians will also get up to $378 for the Ontario Sales Tax Credit. You may be eligible for an additional credit of up to $378 for your spouse or common-law partner, and each dependent child under 19 years of age on the 1st of the payment month. This credit does not affect your GST/HST credit payments.

OTB payment dates for the rest of the year

After the Aug. 10 payments, the benefit will be paid out on the following dates:

• Sept. 10, 2026
• Oct. 9, 2026
• Nov. 10, 2026
• Dec. 10, 2026

If you don't receive your payment, wait 10 working days from the payment date to contact the CRA.
