GO, UP Express, and TTC closures this weekend will make travel in and around Toronto especially challenging for anyone relying on public transit.
Metrolinx has announced that it will halt service on two entire routes and a large portion of a third route for the upcoming weekend of August 15 and 16, 2026 — with the trio of outages to combine for approximately 160 kilometres of closed tracks. In addition, the TTC is planning a major outage along Line 1 that will cut off a large portion of the city
With GO's full Barrie Line and a portion of its Kitchener Line, along with the UP Express set to close for construction, here's everything you'll need to know about commuting around the region this coming weekend.
The entire 101.4-kilometre GO Barrie Line will be closed this weekend due to construction, with no train service along the full length of the line between Allandale Waterfront and Union Station.
Trains will be replaced by shuttle bus service between Allandale Waterfront and Rutherford GO, then direct to Hwy 407 Bus Terminal.
Replacement buses will not serve Downsview Park GO during the closure, and Metrolinx advises passengers to use the Line 1 connections at Union or Downsview Park to connect to/from GO bus service.

Construction will halt train service along a significant portion of the Kitchener Line for the full weekend ahead.
GO buses will be deployed to replace trains on the stretch between the new Stratford GO and Mount Pleasant GO stations, while trains will continue to serve the portion between Mount Pleasant and Mount Dennis GO.
The stretch south of Mount Dennis GO will also shut down to trains, and Metrolinx recommends taking Line 5 from Mount Dennis to connect to Line 1 to reach Union Station.

The entire 23.3-kilometre UP Express will be replaced by shuttle buses this weekend due to construction along the line.
GO buses will run directly between Union Station Bus Terminal and Pearson Airport Terminal 1, while UP Express stations at Bloor, Mount Dennis and Weston will not be served.

In addition to the GO and UP Express outages, the TTC has announced that there will be no service on the Line 1 Yonge-University route between Sheppard West and St Clair West stations for this entire weekend.
Service will shut down early along this 8.7-kilometre stretch on Friday, August 14 at 11:59 p.m., and trains will not resume serving this stretch until the start of service on the morning of Monday, August 17.
