Ontario set to see its 'final' burst of winter weather this week

After a few brutal weeks of snow, freezing rain, icy temperatures, and just about everything in between, Ontario is finally starting to show signs of spring, but not before one last reminder that winter isn't quite over yet.

While temperatures have been slowly (and we mean, very slowly) warming up since the official start of the spring season, southern Ontario is set to get hit with a "final," but impactful, burst of winterlike weather heading into the weekend.

Here in Toronto, it might look deceptively nice outside, but don't let the sunshine fool you, as wind chills are expected to stay well below zero for much of the weekend.

According to The Weather Network's latest report, temperatures will take a noticeable dip on Friday night, dropping to around -7 C, but feeling closer to -13 C with the wind chill.

Saturday morning is also shaping up to be pretty frigid, with morning temperatures also feeling like -13 C. Thankfully, temperatures are expected to climb slightly throughout the day, reaching a high of 1 C, although it'll still feel closer to -4 C.

By Sunday, conditions will really start to shift, with a significant warmup expected by the afternoon, with highs reaching 10 C. Looking ahead, the rest of the week will continue to offer milder temperatures, with a high of 13 C on Monday and a high of 15 C on Tuesday.

As The Weather Network notes, the temperature pattern heading into April will remain "variable," although the number of bone-chilling cold days is expected to decline significantly.

Still, periods of snow and cooler air are extremely typical in April, when Toronto averages about four centimetres of snow throughout the month, but the more extreme cold snaps should become less frequent.

In April,  The Weather Network writes that, "U.S.-based systems will likely track into the Great Lakes, creating milder, rainier conditions. That said, colder air will lurk nearby and could still bring periodic cool downs, though less intense than what has been seen recently. Consistent warmth typically arrives later in the season."

Overall, early April is expected to be warmer than late March, although any warm spells will likely be short-lived until summer fully takes hold.
