ontario residents dating less

Ontario singles are skipping out on dates and the reason is painfully relatable

We've often been told that love doesn't cost a thing, but for Ontario residents, dating in 2026 does come with a price tag.

A new TD survey reveals that eligible singles are dating less or opting for low-to-no-cost outings instead.

Among Ontario residents, additional data provided to blogTO shows that 32 per cent of individuals say they're going on fewer dates, while 30 per cent are choosing less expensive date options due to ongoing economic pressures.

Younger folks appear to be feeling the squeeze the most, which isn't a total surprise.

With rent rising in Toronto and across the province, along with increasingly expensive bars, restaurants, and basic groceries, it's no wonder people are ditching dating.

More than one-third (36 per cent) of Gen Z singles in Ontario are dating less, which is a higher rate than the national average of 29 per cent.

The survey also reveals common money-related dealbreakers Ontario residents have.

Bad spending habits top the list, as 45 per cent of individuals say they would end a relationship over it.

Meanwhile, 40 per cent say they would end a relationship if their partner never offered to pay for anything. 32 per cent say they'd call it quits if a partner were to make "risky investment decisions."

In short, it seems budgeting is now just as important to daters as chemistry.
