Popular board game recalled in Canada over 'life-threatening' hazard

Your weekly family board game night could be harbouring a potential risk, according to the latest recall from Health Canada.

Health Canada announced the recall on Wednesday, stating that the board game is being pulled due to an ingestion hazard and urged Canadians to immediately stop using the product.

The affected product is the Klask 4 board game, which comes with the following pieces: a board, two legs, two orange balls, seven white magnets, four striker and steering magnets, four scoring markers, and one rule book.

After sampling and evaluating the Klask 4 board game, the health agency stated that the magnets don't meet the magnetic force requirements of the Toys Regulations and pose an ingestion hazard.

"Small, powerful magnets can be easily swallowed by children of all ages, posing serious and potentially life-threatening risks," reads the notice.

"When more than one powerful magnet is swallowed in a short period of time, the magnets can attract one another while moving through the intestines. This can cause the intestines to twist, creating blockages or tearing of the intestinal walls."

Immediately stop using the affected product and contact Asmodee Canada or the local retailer where the game was purchased to receive a replacement kit.

As of Feb. 6, Asmodee Canada Inc. hasn't received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the affected product. However, Health Canada is urging people to report any health or safety incidents related to the recall by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
