ttc subway closure this weekend

Stretch of TTC subway to shut down for second weekend in a row with no shuttle buses

TTC subway closures this weekend will include a significant stretch of the Line 1 Yonge-University line shut down, marking the second weekend in a row that this portion of the line will be taken out of service.

The TTC plans to halt service from St George to St Andrew stations for the full weekend of Friday, Jan. 30, starting at 11 p.m., until Sunday, Feb. 1, with the closure scheduled to accommodate ongoing station work.

During the closure, Museum, Queen's Park, St Patrick and Osgoode stations will be inaccessible to passengers, though other subway stations affected by the outage will remain open for riders to connect with surface routes and purchase or reload fare cards.

If two consecutive weekends of disruption on this stretch wasn't enough of an inconvenience for commuters, the TTC has again opted not to run shuttle buses to cover the closed portion of the subway due to congestion in the area.

In lieu of shuttle buses, the transit agency has shared a list of alternate surface and subway routes to help navigate around the disruption.

And, for area residents and businesses, the recurring closures along this stretch are likely becoming more than just a minor annoyance.

The closure follows another planned full-weekend closure that was set to last from Friday, Jan. 23, through Sunday, Jan 25. However, service resumed ahead of schedule on Sunday to help move the masses through a historic snowstorm that dumped as much as 56 cm on downtown Toronto.

Regular service on Line 1 is expected to resume on Monday, Feb. 2, in time for the start of the workweek rush.
