It's getting harder and harder to deem Toronto's new Line 6 Finch LRT anything short of an unmitigated disaster, as the weeks-old transit line entered its second consecutive day out of commission on Friday following a severe winter storm that slammed into the city this week.
Toronto's newest transit line debuted on Dec. 7 and revealed its hand early on, with first-day jitters leaving riders frustrated right off the bat. Weeks later, the 10.3-kilometre light rail line is arguably only getting worse, and it has failed its first major test of Toronto winter weather in the most disappointing way.
The TTC announced on Friday morning that Line 6 — which was out of service for the entire day on Thursday — was still closed "due to weather conditions" and service had been replaced by shuttle buses.
As of 8:03 AM - Line 6 Finch West: No service between Finch West and Humber College stations due to weather conditions.Shuttle buses will operate from Finch West to Humber College Station. Wednesday night marked the start of a multi-day snow event in Toronto that has already deposited upwards of 40 centimetres on the city and threatens more snowfall on Friday afternoon.
In the lead-up to the storm, the TTC declared that it was "taking proactive measures to ensure people can travel safely." However, the promised safety hasn't exactly translated to convenience for riders, as rolling outages and stops being taken out of service across the network have left commuters scrambling two days in a row.
Friday's continued Line 6 closure is just the latest in a growing list of outages plaguing the December-opened light rail line, including several lengthy disruptions that had nothing to do with inclement weather.

In fact, the shuttle buses currently deployed along Finch may be a blessing in disguise for riders.
In a recent test of the line's brutal reputation, blogTO raced the new LRT on a parallel bus route, and the bus trip was so much quicker that we even had time to stop and grab a snack before the LRT passenger caught up.
