Ontario could be buried in another 25cm of snow after historic storm

They say bad things come in threes, and Toronto might be seeing its third (and hopefully final) major snow event as January comes to a close.

After digging out from as much as 56 centimetres of snow on Sunday and Monday, residents in the Greater Toronto Area may need to grab their shovels yet again on Tuesday, as meteorologists warn of more snowfall and "potential whiteouts."

A fast-moving clipper system from the Prairies will track across southern Ontario on Tuesday, bringing light snow and gusty winds that could cause blowing snow.

According to The Weather Network, Toronto is expected to receive up to 3 centimetres of snow, while Ontario's snowbelt regions could see 15 to 25 centimetres of snow over the next few days.

While Toronto was the hardest hit area in a record-breaking Jan. 25 storm, it seems the city will get off lighter than areas to the north this time around. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is calling for a 40 per cent chance of flurries in Toronto starting Monday night and continuing until Thursday afternoon.

The current snap of cold weather and snow in the region aligns with the Farmer's Almanac's prediction of "more snowy periods coupled with frigid temperatures" for the rest of January.

Temperatures in Toronto will remain in the extreme cold range, as ECCC predicts it will feel like -25 degrees with the wind chill factored in on Tuesday morning. Thursday looks to be the coldest day of the week, with temperatures dropping to a low of -20 degrees.

While some residents are making the most of the snowy conditions, others are begging for a much-needed break from all this snow. However, according to ECCC's latest three-month forecast, more snowstorms could hit Ontario in February.
