hudsons bay holiday windows

Iconic Hudson's Bay holiday windows returning to Toronto for 2025 but with a twist

Many Toronto residents have been mourning the loss of Hudson's Bay's classic holiday window displays this year. Still, it seems they might get a dose of festive-season nostalgia after all, as Cadillac Fairview has hinted that the vignettes are not gone for good.

Passersby have recently noticed colourful hoardings on the windows of Hudson's Bay's former flagship store at Queen and Yonge. The windows are wrapped like giant presents, decorated with a big blue bow and the words, "To: Toronto. Something Sweet is Coming," leaving people wondering what might be in store.

Although details remain under wraps, a spokesperson from Cadillac Fairview has confirmed that the beloved window tradition is returning to this iconic corner in the city.

"Cadillac Fairview is proud to help revive the holiday window experience at the former Hudson's Bay building and honour a cherished Toronto tradition to ensure the historic intersection of Yonge and Queen remains a vibrant destination this holiday season," they stated.

They went on to verify that "the prominent Yonge Street windows are already secured by a single major brand for Holiday 2025," and that these displays extend beyond the holidays, making the windows a "year-round experiential marketing platform for brands."

The brand taking over the frontage has yet to be announced. But the messaging — paired with the colourful hoarding — has Toronto residents speculating about who will take over this annual city staple. Guesses range from Bath & Body Works to Craig's Cookies, and until Cadillac Fairview confirms the retailer, nothing is off the table.

Hudson Bay's traditional window displays at its former flagship location officially ended in 2023, following construction disruptions and the retailer filing for creditor protection in 2024.

The upcoming holiday window displays will be at the Hudson's Bay/Simpsons Tower complex located at 176 Yonge St.
