Brand-new Toronto transit station is finally about to open

A new station serving GO Transit's Kitchener Line and UP Express is just weeks from opening.

Metrolinx has announced that its new Mount Dennis GO and UP Station is scheduled to welcome its first riders on Nov. 16, 2025.

The station is part of the large Mount Dennis transit hub along Eglinton Ave. W., which includes a future connection to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, expected to open as the TTC's Line 5 - Eglinton in the coming months.

The upcoming opening of the GO and UP Express station was widely expected to take place alongside the beleaguered Crosstown project. However, with no opening date yet announced and yet another recent hiccup in the line's final testing phase, it appears the station's heavy rail component will open independently of its Line 5 connection.

Mount Dennis will briefly serve as Line 5's initial western terminus once the LRT finally opens, though the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, now well underway, will eventually bring the line as far west as Pearson Airport.

Once the entire station is operational, it will serve as a key connection linking Line 5 with GO Transit's Kitchener Line and UP Express, offering quick commutes to travel hubs like Union Station and Pearson Airport, while offsetting demand on the Crosstown's Line 1 connections.

News of the station's start of service was shoehorned into a recent provincial announcement on the impending opening of the Finch West LRT and the unveiling of a new fare-free underground pathway serving Eglinton West Station (ahead of its renaming to Cedarvale Station once Line 5 opens).
