Key stretch of Toronto's busiest commuter rail line will shut down all weekend

GO Transit closures this weekend will create headaches for commuters on a key stretch of GO Transit's busiest rail route in and out of Toronto.

Part of the busy Lakeshore West Line will shut down all weekend, and commuters will want to plan ahead to avoid the disruption.

Metrolinx plans to halt service on a portion of the line for the entire weekend of Saturday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 18, attributing this latest shutdown to planned construction taking place along the route.

While it's not a massive outage like those commuters have endured in recent months, the placement — right smack-dab in the middle of the busiest GO line — is about as inconvenient as it gets.

GO trains will not serve Appleby or Bronte GO stations, with the route essentially split in two by the closure.

Trains will run between Niagara Falls GO and Aldershot GO in the west, and between Oakville GO and Union Station in the east.

Regularly scheduled trains that begin and end at Confederation and West Harbour GO will not run, while there will be no GO train service between Aldershot and Oakville GO.

Riders travelling between the two disconnected sections of the line will need to board shuttle buses running between West Harbour/Aldershot and Oakville GO, turning a smooth trip on the Lakeshore West route into a multi-transfer train-bus-train trip.
