Canada tops list of countries people want to move to

People around the world have Canada at the top of their list of dream destinations to move to, according to a new report.

Remitly, an international money transfer service, released a ranking of the countries people dream of moving to the most.

Surveying over 4,800 people across 26 countries, the research highlights not only the most desirable destinations but also the motivations behind people's dreams of starting a new life in those countries.

"Whether it's the promise of a slower-paced life, better work-life balance, or exciting career opportunities, there are countless reasons people decide to relocate," reads the report.

According to the survey, Canada ranks as the number one place people want to move to. Respondents listed the following reasons why it's their dream destination: quality of life, lifestyle, job opportunities, diverse landscape, and welcoming communities.

"With access to excellent education and healthcare, as well as safe cities to live in and the opportunity for lots of outdoor activities, Canada offers the stability and balance a lot of people are searching for," reads the report.

It doesn't hurt that Canada's diverse landscape offers gorgeous views.

"From charming coastal towns and lively, cosmopolitan cities to sparkling lakes and dramatic snow-capped mountains, Canada's diverse landscapes promise something for everyone, whether you crave the excitement of city life or the tranquillity of the outdoors (or a bit of both)," explained the report.

Lastly, respondents factored in the friendly Canadian culture as to why they would want to move to Canada.

"Canadians are famously friendly — in fact, they ranked among the world's friendliest nations in our previous study," reads the report. "It's no surprise, then, that many people see the warmth of Canadian communities ranks as the fifth top reason people want to make the move."

While Canada boasts all of these perks, just like any other country, it's not perfect. With the soaring cost of living, some immigrants are struggling to survive and are considering leaving.

Australia took second place on Remitly's ranking, lauded for its warm climate, relaxed lifestyle, and job opportunities.

Japan followed behind in third place. Respondents cited that it's a dream destination due to its culture, food, and low crime rates.
