CNE offering rare chance to get married for free under glowing midway lights this summer

The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) is calling all lovebirds with a deep connection to the iconic Toronto fairgrounds with a contest that's straight out of a fairytale.

Whether you had your first date riding the Polar Express, fell for your partner over corn dogs and cotton candy, or even met while working a summer job at the Ex, this is your chance to tie the knot in a totally unforgettable way: with a Marriage on the Midway.

As of Thursday, Ontario couples can submit their love story online for the chance to win an all-expenses-paid wedding celebration taking place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, right in the heart of the CNE.

The wedding package is dreamy and delightfully CNE

The couple will say their vows under the famous SuperWheel with an official wedding photographer to cover their big day! They'll also get a delicious wedding cake created by a local baker from the CNE's first-ever Cake Decorating Competition, unlimited ride passes for themselves and up to 20 guests, and $500 in food vouchers to feast on all the fair favourites!

But there's more! Reserved seats at the Bell CNE Bandshell for a performance by 98 Degrees, where the group will serenade the newlyweds with their hit I Do (Cherish You).

"Every year we meet visitors who had their first date at the CNE or who met while working summer jobs here. Some vendors who met at the fair have even been married for over 50 years," said Jane Matthews, CNE Marketing Director. "We've had proposals happen here, so this year we thought, why not host a full wedding?"

The Marriage on the Midway contest is open to Ontario residents 18+, and submissions will be accepted until August 8, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. The winning couple will be selected by August 15.

Although this is a celebration of love and a highlight of ways in which the CNE has sparked happily ever afters, the ceremony is strictly symbolic and not legally binding.
