A Toronto intersection that has been the centre of a massive condo boom, years-long construction on the city's most problematic transit line, and other roadwork that has made it a hellish place for both drivers and pedestrians is set to be hindered once again by, you guessed it, further "improvements."
While crews are still wrapping up work on the Eglinton Crosstown LRT — which is now expected to open in September after countless delays — Metrolinx is shutting down parts of the crowded corner of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue for approximately three full days starting this weekend, which may extend longer, depending on how things go.
The closure is, according to a construction notice, for utility works related to the LRT line, and will necessitate intermittent lane closures both ways on Yonge Street north of Eglinton.
One lane of traffic will remain open at all times, but those in the area can expect pylons, machinery, construction workers and all of the associated mess throughout the period, which is expected to start "as early as" this Saturday, May 24 and last until at least the end of Monday, May 26.

Metrolinx notes that work is scheduled to take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. across all three days, and that "upon completion of this work, short-term lane reductions may be required to facilitate special activities."
The dates may also change due to weather, and the project "could take longer or shorter than expected."

A new construction notice from Metrolinx details the work.
Though locals are more than used to the chaos of the Crosstown (and other) construction at this point, it's been more than a headache for residents and businesses in the area, as well as for anyone just passing through.
The 19 km-long, 25-station east-west route, which has been in active progress since October 2011, will, of course, serve the crucial juncture of Yonge and Eg. The platform of the existing Eglinton subway station had to be extended to this end, linking the LRT with TTC's Line 1 Yonge-University subway.
