These three Ontario universities were just ranked the best for future CEOs

If you have high-flying aspirations of one day gracing the very top of the corporate ladder, you'll likely want to consider one of the universities on a new list of the schools that are best for producing CEOs.

For the ranking, researchers at Immerse Education sifted through LinkedIn data to establish which institutions the nation's top leaders attended.

From this, they gleaned the percentage of alumni from campuses across Canada that tend to end up in CEO positions.

While the top spot went to Montreal's McGill University, which has a score of 4.26 per cent, three Ontario schools also made the top ten — including, of course, the University of Toronto, though locals and alums may be surprised at how low down it landed on the list.

In second place is Queen's University in Kingston, with 4.02 per cent of grads going on to become top execs, followed by London, Ontario's Western University, where 3.35 per cent of grads are now CEOs.

Next is the University of British Columbia (3.33 per cent), HEC Montreal (3.17 per cent), and U of T (3.1 per cent), then Mount Allison University (2.96 per cent), the University of Alberta (2.89 per cent), St. Mary's University (2.89 per cent) and Acadia University (2.84 per cent).

By comparison, the best universities in the entire world for those hoping to become a CEO are Vanderbilt University and Standford University, where a respective 11.56 per cent and 9.21 per cent of grads go on to move to top executive roles.
