Has Nuit Blanche in Toronto fallen off?

Nuit Blanche took over Toronto streets this past weekend with an all-night art crawl featuring dozens of installations spread through the city.

But with fewer and fewer installations each year, coupled with a lack of major corporate sponsors, Nuit Blanche is a far cry from the season-defining event it was during the early-to-mid 2010s.

And while 2026 proved one of the more popular Nuit Blanche celebrations in recent years, there were some mixed opinions on whether this year’s 20th-anniversary event lived up to its heyday of past years.

blogTO hit the streets to get a sense of what attendees thought of this year’s Nuit Blanche, and let's just say people were left pretty divided.

One person argued that Nuit Blanche has "lost its magic a little bit," adding that the event is "kind of disappointing" compared to past years.

Another attendee said, "I think this year has been phenomenal so far," but noted how indoor experiences attracted long lines.

One person posited that this year's event was "better than last year," and remarked that larger crowds were out enjoying Nuit Blanche than in past years.

And it seems publicity and wayfinding were at least in part responsible for this year's relative success, with one attendee saying, "Last year I didn't get a lot of direction, and I feel like this year I did from the internet and from maps."
