Shot of Art: Jon Todd at SMASH

Toronto-based artist Jon Todd has a new show up at SMASH on Dundas West. An unlikely mixture of Mexican lucha libre and Japanese Samurai symbolism, it'd probably be fair to place these works within the general trajectory of pop surrealism if it wasn't for the fact that no one seems to like to be labeled this way nowadays. The highlight of the show is a true-to-scale wrestling ring featuring an image of Jake The Snake Robert, one of the artist's childhood heroes. In addition to his solo work, a 16 foot mural created with the help of other artists was unveiled at the May 27th opening.

"Trophy," The Fine Art Jon Todd runs May 27 - June 5th 2011.
