Going Round in Circles @ LA RONDE

Playing at the Buddies in Bad Time Theatre till May 29th is a freely adapted and updated version of Arthur Schnitzler's LA RONDE. It's a circular tale of love, betrayal and how sex has everything and nothing to do with it.

What I did enjoy was how it was very cyclical storytelling. How most of the characters, especially those intimately and emotionally involved spoke around their lies while at the same time telling the truth. Confused? It gets better.

We are treated to a rather sensitive, yet raw conversation about how love and sex intertwine, how the genders get it confused and how at the end of the day, we're still right back where we started.

While I did enjoy the entire play throughout, the only thing ajarring were the different eras the vingettes were set in. It made the circle seem very much like watching the characters run in and out of Doctor Who's time travelling telephone booth and less about how we are all connected to someone.

Still, it's nice conversation material and equal opportunity nudity is a plus.
