Going Upstairs

Despite the open-heart surgery state of renovations, The Gladstone Hotel did their second annual Alternative Design Event titled "Come Up To My Room" over the weekend. It felt pretty magical to be roaming through the freshly painted rooms and shellacked wood floors, knowing how much history is preserved in this ancient landmark.

From room 201 to 214, there are almost 30 exhibitors showing everything from uber-styled hipster furniture, to my personal fave: the "Granny Square Wreck Room". Here, Allyson Mitchell and Magazin Flair combined kitsch-cozy forces where Allyson crocheted delicious colours all over room 207. As a design-student pal of mine mentioned "It made me want to sit cross-legged and drink juice boxes". Even the mini-stereo had a crochet-outfit!
