The world got a first glimpse of the new Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent series when it debuted this month, starring a cast of Canadian talent in the crime drama's first spinoff set north of the border.

Now that they star in a series featuring plotlines "ripped from the headlines," blogTO decided to test out the knowledge of the show's leading actors on some of the most bizarre news stories originating from Toronto over the past dozen or so years.

blogTO sat down with series leads Aden Young, Kathleen Munroe, K. C. Collins, and Karen Robinson, who respectively star as Det. Sgt. Henry Graff, Det. Sgt. Frankie Bateman, Deputy Crown Attorney Theo Forrester, and Insp. Vivienne Holness.

While the show will deal with some of the harder-hitting news headlines originating out of Toronto in recent years, the cast was quizzed on news stories less likely to be covered by the crime drama, like the infamous feces-throwing attacks of 2019 – a story most of the cast were familiar with.

All of the show's stars were surprisingly knowledgeable about the city's past news headlines, even some of the weirder ones.

Watch the video above to see if the cast of Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent knows about other hilarious local news stories, like the legendary IKEA monkey of 2012, a shirtless jogger who went viral in 2014, and the naked man caught swimming in the Ripley's Aquarium shark tank in 2018 – a list that is not only chronological but also descending in the amount of clothing featured.

The series' second episode, titled Good Neighbours, appears to be based on a late 2022 Vaughan condo board shooting that left six dead, including the shooter.
