Jamie Kennedy to be executive chef at Duggan's Brewery

Posted by Ben Johnson / August 25, 2014

Jamie Kennedy Duggans BreweryIn an exciting turn of events for fans of craft beer and dining out, brewer Michael Duggan has announced that the executive chef for his soon-to-open Parkdale Brewpub will be none other than Governor General's Award-Winner, Jamie Kennedy.

The story first broke earlier today on Canadian Beer News, where that site's publisher, Greg Clow, revealed that the owner and operator of Gilead Café and Jamie Kennedy Kitchens will oversee menu development and staffing of the kitchen and that the menu will incorporate Kennedy's typical approach to "fresh and local" fare which, when paired with fresh and local craft beer, seems like an almost surefire win for fans of great brews and good food alike.

More details are set to be revealed shortly, but for Parkdale residents (Parkdalians?) who've long been teased about the notion of having their own local brewery, it seems the fiction is finally becoming a reality--and given the alignment of experienced local brewmaster, Duggan, and famed Toronto restaurauteur, Kennedy, it seems like it may truly have been worth the wait.

Ben Johnson also writes about beer over on Ben's Beer Blog. You really should vote for him as your favourite beer writer in The Golden Tap Awards.

Yes Ben we have been called parkdaliens for a very long time. Your cleverness shows your youth.

Speaking of long in the tooth, senior Kennedy and his resume are no longer a part of what is current in culinary trends. His habit of coming in with big hype and departing 5 minutes later is quite tiring. If papers were still printed he would be a waste of ink

Meh. JK is overrated and past his heyday. Will the beer be good is a better question…

Thing is like most restaurants we like a beer selection, not just forced to drink one brand. If they want people to try it. They should be handing out one free bottle or can as people walk by. Beer companies hand out beer samples in the downtown core, they should do this in Parkdale. Come on Duggans bring on the beer!

I agree Kennedy's day has long been over.

Duggan stiffed his staff when he shut down his last location. What an asshole.

He's a lousy tipper as well.

I hope they play Bring on the Dancing Horses by Echo and the Bunnymen. I could listen to that song all day long!
