It's deadpool for Tortilla Flats on Queen West

Tortilla FlatsIt's only Wednesday and it has already been a tough week for restaurant closures in Toronto. The latest deadpool is Tortilla Flats, a long time fixture on Queen St. just west of Spadina. While many rightly complained about quality of food and service at this joint, there's no denying it continued to draw something of a crowd for its cheap drink specials ($3.49 daiquiri Mondays) and back patio.

Here's the note that recently surfaced on their front door claiming unpaid bills in excess of $40,000.

Only went there twice, and both times the service was fast and friendly. Loved that patio. Food was great and had a ton of leftovers for the next day. What a shame.

Good riddance! The last time we were there we had to send drinks back 3 times because they had flies in them each time! Gross!

Its always interesting the different experiences people have. I've been there 3 times over the past few years and never had any problems. Its not fancy by any means, but hey, you go there for cheap drinks.

there was a time when their food was good.when you had an excess of a couple dozen people together to distract you from how bad it really was.. the nachos were a staple to that place. it's a shame to someone,i am sure. good riddance i say !

for anyone complaining about the food, the food was not the point of the place! it was the warm atmosphere and the absolutely amazing patio- and the drink specials! i have so many wonderful memories of this colourful place. i'm really sad about this. to me that part of queen street won't be the same. i really hope something else cool opens up in that spot.

Long gone were the days of it being worth going there, the only thing worse than the food was the service.

We actually had a waitress scream "I fucking heard you" when trying to get her attention in the almost empty patio.

Good god, last year I bit into a burrito that had a piece of glass in it. I gave it to the waitress. She asked if I wanted another burrito. She could care less I almost swallowed glass.

Thank heaven this place is gone.

A good restaurant is about the whole package; great food that uses fresh ingredients and is freshly prepared, good drinks, friendly and attentive service, clean (including restrooms), ambiance and the crowd. If the food and/or drinks are mediocre and the service sucks, why go back? Adiós Tortilla Flats you failed at most of the above, my one experience there a few years ago never brought me back.

Give me a break - it's not like it's a restaurant that has been there for years. It only moved from it's old location like 6 years ago.

It's a restaurant!!!!!!!!! People go there for food and the food sucks. Glad it's dead, hope it never comes back ever. BYE.

The owner must have really wanted them out. $40k at that location is only a couple months rent. I don't think I've been to that place since they were further east on Queen in the 90's, oh well, not gonna miss it.

Almost positive the server (or someone there) copied my visa there a few years back.
Went there again maybe a summer ago, nice patio to have a beer on, but that about it. Oh and there was a squirrel up in the ductwork, ya, inside, up near the roof, A LIVE SQUIRREL.

atmosphere was ok but food was horrible - this was the first mexican place where husband and I ate upon moving here and we never returned.

I know it's pointless to talk about a restaurant after it's been shut down, but this place was truly bad. Food-wise, you were better off going to the Taco Bell (with a bonus KFC) right across the street.

I live right next to this fetid hole and I'm glad that the mountains of rotting garbage they regularly dumped into the laneway will be gone (along with the rats that fed on it just a few feet from the depressing patio). I'll also be happy to be free of the terrible music they blast during the day, apparently to attract customers (obviously not an effective strategy). But I'm weary that something worse might replace it. And, as much as I hated the place, I'm sad to think that people lost their jobs.

I think everything said made a lot of sense. However,
think about this, suppose you typed a catchier title?

I mean, I don't want to tell you how to run your website, but what if you added a title that grabbed a person's attention?
I mean It's deadpool for Tortilla Flats on Queen West is a little vanilla. You should look at Yahoo's home page and see how they create article headlines to grab people to open the links.
You might try adding a video or a pic or two to get people interested about everything've got to say. In my opinion, it might make your blog a little livelier.
