Fahrenheit Coffee closes (but will re-open elsewhere)

Posted by Tim / October 7, 2011

Fahrenheit Coffee closedLoyal customers of Fahrenheit Coffee might have been surprised to find the cafe MIA this week on the Esplanade. I stopped by yesterday to grab a pick-me-up only to find it no longer existed. The tiny cafe was completely empty - no equipment, no fixtures, no counter, no signage....almost nothing to hint that one of the best new coffee shops to open this year ever existed.

All that remained was a notice on the door from GOAG Grinding and Brewing thanking customers for their support and mentioning that a new full service training facility will be opening within the next four weeks.

I emailed Fahrenheit's Sameer Mohamed for comment. He was light on details but explained that the reason for the sudden closure was due to "issues with the landlord". He wouldn't tell me where in the city they're scouting for a new location but did say they have already "entered negotiations for spaces."

As for what to expect in the new place, Mohamed wrote it will be a "bit larger, limited seating if any, predominantly take out." He also hinted that perhaps he and COAG had gone their separate ways noting that COAG will remain at the Esplanade location and not be involved in whatever holds for the future of Fahrenheit.

Even the non-political posts here are political!

It's been closed for a few weeks actually, and I cannot wait til Sameer reopens. Sorely missed cafe.

Shouldn't the headline read: "Fahrenheit Coffee moving locations"? Why add it to the dead pool when it's confirmed to be opening again?

Dead is dead. This one ain't.

I'm happy to hear they didn't go out of business due to lack of traffic - this place was definitely one of the best coffee joints in the city.
