The Zippie Cafe in Parkdale closes its doorsThe Zippy Cafe, the quaint little Parkdale cafe at 1718 Queen St. W. (just east of Roncesvalles) has closed.

It's a shame the cafe had to close, although there's no indication on the door why the place had to shut down. The store'sname and elaborately etched sign were among my favourites in the Parkdale neighbourhood, although I didn't get the chance to dine in there.

It now has a sign on the door saying "cafe furniture equipment for sale," so if that's what you need and feel charitable, you can arrange to take a piece of West Queen West away by calling 416-524-2034.

I'm not surprised: I never saw any (or many) customers there. Was it a form of racism? Or maybe the owner was too relaxed about promoting the place?

The cafe has been for sale since the Spring, at least. Clearly, no takers. Time to open the place up, make it less dark. (Although I like the dark.:))

@david

What does race have to do with the demise of Zippy Cafe?

It was a bit out of the way for me to go regularly but they had superb muffins and good coffee.

I interviewed a ballerina there for 'Toronto Portraits'. Maybe you can buy the green couch in the shot...
