The Town Grill Enters Deadpool and Omi Steps In

Posted by Tim / August 5, 2008

Town GrillIt's not new news that Cabbagetown's The Town Grill has closed its doors. The somewhat popular spot experienced a bit of a renaissance back in 2007 when chef Colin Gallacher assumed control and churned out expertly prepared steak frites, black cod and potato rosti.

But in the restaurant biz, things change fast and alas The Town Grill on Carlton was not meant to be.

The good news is that John Lee (sushi royalty in this city) will be bringing Omi Sushi to the 'hood. The restaurant was rumoured to be ready to open last month but the latest indication is that it will probably be at least a few more weeks before the reno paper comes off.

That would be the same chef John Lee that trained with Masaharu Morimoto; the same chef John Lee responsible for the excellent sushi at Sushi Marche. Hopefully there will be tables in the new place but if his other ventures are any indication, the food will be top shelf. Lucky, lucky Cabagetown!

Actually, no, different John Lee. This is the guy who had Omi previously on Church St., and well-known for his omakase. John Lee of Sushi March? is a different dude, but equally talented!

The Town Grill was another victim of Restaurant Makeover.

There's no faster way to get your restaurant shut down than to appear on that show.

Place is now open, but has been getting some very mixed reviews.
