The Top 10 Most Viewed Posts of 2009

Posted by Tim / December 31, 2009

Top 10 Most ViewedPreviously I've marked the end of the year by counting down the 50 most viewed posts from the past 12 months on this site. In a break with tradition I've shortened the list to 10. What's clear at looking at this distilled selection is that readers of this site are obsessed about the weather, rat infestations, garbage and Google, not necessarily in that order. Here, in terms of page views, are the top 10 posts of the year:

10. Airbus A380 Lands in Toronto: In Photos
9. How (Not) To Be Canada's Next Top Model
8. Dupont & Christie Loblaws Closes Early, Remains Mum
7. Toronto Garbage Strike: Smells Like Summer

That garbage photo is from the last strike, not the most recent. Why use it when there are so many free, uncopyrighted, images online to choose from that actually depict the events in question?

Okay, you're right, dates don't lie. During the last strike, garbage accumulated along the path, like you see in that photo.

The thing is, that pile pictured wasn't actually part of the strike. There was a festival in Chrisitie Pits the day before and this was the waste from all the tents and such. It got picked up pretty quickly, even though the strike was on.

I still think the image was poorly chosen. It was the use of the rink that was hotly debated. City employees actually kept the park itself free of garbage (cleared bins semi-regularly, picked up bags dumped illegally, etc.)

Well if your first complaint proved false, why not make a second (or third...) - oy.
