Your itinerary for an idyllic summer getaway in Vaughan

Looking for a summer getaway that you can get to by TTC? Just a hop, skip, and jump away is Vaughan, and it's bursting with fun summer activities.

With big-time attractions, local culture, and natural beauty, Vaughan is the perfect destination for a weekend getaway this summer.

Here's your ultimate 48-hour itinerary to make the most of your summer.

Day 1: Summertime attractions

For your first day in Vaughan, it's time to check out the area's many attractions that come alive in the summertime. For thrill-seekers, a visit to Canada's Wonderland is a must-do. With over 200 attractions (and 17 roller coasters), don't forget to check out the 20-acre Splash Works waterpark to beat the heat.

vaughanIf nature has your heart calling, the Boyd Conservation Area is an absolute wonder to visit in the summer. Situated along the Humber River, it's the perfect spot for picnics, BBQs, or to just relax in the surrounding beauty.

Once you've completed your first activity, you'll surely have built up some hunger, so now it's time to check out Vaughan's A1 dining scene. Ay Caramba Eh is a beloved taqueria for killer tacos, nachos, and (my favourite) churros! Try the campechano taco, a tasty mix of alambre-style beef and pork chorizo.

Don't forget to visit Vaughan during Vaughan Flavours (July 24 to August 7), where top local restaurants will be serving up three-course prix fixe menus at set prices! Italian, Caribbean, Asian — you name it!

vaughanWhen it's time to hit the hay, take it back to the Aloft Vaughan Mills, centred in the heart of Vaughan. You're just steps away from Canada's Wonderland, LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre, and Vaughan Mills Shopping Centre, plus Aloft also has a heated pool!

Day 2: Local culture and wellness

With your first day in Vaughan completed, day two is all about diving into the area's local culture and wellness hotspots. For some rest and relaxation, take it to the Santé Salt Cave & Healing Spa, which uses Himalayan Salt for holistic treatments. The salt cave is especially remarkable: a 500-square-foot space where 5.69 grams of pharmaceutical-grade salt is dispersed throughout the air.

Dive deep into Vaughan's art and culture scene with a trip to the quaint Kleinburg Village, established in 1848. Picture local shops and restaurants, friendly locals, and historic culture. The main strip is lined with local attractions, while the village is transformed with romantic vibes at night. Kleinburg offers a relaxed setting and local charm, unlike anything found in the GTA.

vaughanWhile you're in Kleinburg, be sure to stop by Belsito Trattoria-Vino, serving up traditional Italian plates with a contemporary touch. We recommend having lunch on the patio with the delicious Burrata e Prosciutto — creamy burrata cheese, prosciutto crudo, shaved cantaloupe, and vine-ripened tomatoes.

Vaughan, all summer-long

There you have it, a perfect 48 hours in Vaughan. From big attractions like Canada's Wonderland to more laid-back vibes like those found in Kleinburg Village, Vaughan has so much to do and see in the summertime.

And with easy access thanks to direct TTC and GO Transit stops, your next staycation is just around the corner.
